Tu Tango, Purdue Social Tango Club
About
"It's not about fancy repertoire, flourishes and embellishments...
To dance tango at its core is to connect one’s soul to its music.”
– Carlos Gardel
(Argentine singer, songwriter, composer and actor)
We meet every Tuesday from 6:00pm - 8:00pm in UNIV 217. All levels and everyone is welcome!
We are a new dance organization on campus that teaches traditional Argentine tango, focusing and emphasizing on creating a connection to the music and your partner, and dancing what you feel. Each individual has their own unique story to tell which may be expressed through their interpretation of the music.
Through this club, we will help you to find your own connection to tango music and help you to develop the techniques to share that with each person you dance with. We hope that throughout your tango journey, each person will be able to gain the skills necessary to dance their soul to not only tango music but to every music you connect with.
Purdue undergraduates, graduates, faculty/staff, and community members are all encouraged and welcomed to embark on this great opportunity in discovering each individual's connection to traditional Argentine tango! No partners are required and all levels of experience are welcome.
Throughout the semester, we will organize opportunities to travel to other tango communities around the Midwest to participate in milongas (social dances) and tango festivals such as the Chicago Mini Tango Festival in the spring. Other locations we have been to includes Cincinnati, OH; Chicago, IL; Champaign, IL; and Minnesota, MN. We will also hold regular social outings and events as a club around West Lafayette.
